“Research Reveals” Webinar featuring Dr. Katherine Rafferty

June 30, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT

Dr. Rafferty discusses her groundbreaking research examining how women feel after experiencing a medication abortion with Life Perspectives President & CEO Michaelene Fredenburg. Rafferty’s article #AbortionChangesYou: A Case Study to Understand the Communicative Tensions in Women’s Medication Abortion Narratives was published June 1 2020 in the peer-reviewed journal Health Communication.

About the Study

Life Perspectives partnered with Dr. Rafferty and Iowa State University to provide data from Life Perspective’s healing website, AbortionChangesYou.com, for a content analysis study. The study examined anonymous blog posts written by women self-reporting a medication abortion between 2007 and 2018. The purpose of the study was to examine meta-communication themes and to make recommendations for future study. The case study analysis provides an intimate glimpse into complex experiences that often remain muted and silent.

About Dr. Rafferty

The Lab seeks to understand how patients and their families manage health and illness together, and to develop, conduct, and disseminate evidence-based research and projects that promote a greater understanding and awareness of family health communication.

Prior to earning her PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Dr. Rafferty was a Health Communication Specialist at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
