Nurses Nationwide Can Now Earn Continuing Education Hours through Life Perspectives’ Courses
SAN DIEGO (September 2, 2020) – Life Perspectives®, the global leader in education, research, expertise and support after reproductive loss including miscarriage and abortion, today announced that it achieved accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Nurses who attend Life Perspectives’ courses can now earn continuing education hours in accredited professional development courses that train nurses how to integrate optimal reproductive grief care into their patient care practices.
WHAT IS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION?
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is an internationally renowned credentialing program that recognizes healthcare organizations that promote nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. ANCC accredits healthcare organizations that provide continuing nursing education. ANCC is a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, which was founded in 1896 and is now the premier organization representing the interests of the nation’s four million registered nurses. ANCC is the only nurse credentialing organization to successfully achieve International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification. This global certification program provides worldwide reassurance that activities meet international quality standards.
“We are proud that our courses are now accredited by the ANCC to provide continuing education for nurses nationwide,” said Michaelene Fredenburg, President and CEO of Life Perspectives. “With ANCC accreditation, nurses can earn their required continuing education credits while learning critical techniques to help those emotionally impacted by reproductive losses like miscarriage and abortion.”
ACHIEVING NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
For Life Perspectives, the application process for receiving ANCC accreditation began with the hiring of Kathryn Grauerholz MSN, NP, ACHPN as their Director of Healthcare Programs. Requests for accreditation must be completed by a licensed, registered nurse who has a graduate degree and is also a Lead Nurse Planner, accountable for the overall functioning of an organization seeking accreditation. Once hired, Grauerholz spearheaded accreditation for Life Perspectives. In a process that took more than a year, it included a complex application, extensive documentation, a virtual visit with ANCC appraisers and months of deliberation, prior to accreditation.
WHY CARE ABOUT GRIEF AFTER REPRODUCTIVE LOSS?
- 1 out of 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage
- 1 out of 4 women have an abortion by the age of 45
- 2 million couples face reproductive loss each year
- Everyone knows someone who has experienced reproductive loss
“If you haven’t experienced reproductive loss personally, you know someone who has,” said Michaelene Fredenburg, CEO of Life Perspectives. “Since they may feel uncomfortable sharing their experience, it is possible that they are suffering silent and alone.
ARE YOU A NURSE INTERESTED IN HELPING PATIENTS THROUGH REPRODUCTIVE GRIEF?
Many nurses interact daily with people who have experienced reproductive loss. What do they say to these patients? The right – or wrong – words could impact a reproductive loss experience for decades
“In the medical community, there is zero standard of grief care for reproductive loss,” added Fredenburg. “At this time there isn’t a widely recognized evidence-based, unified protocol to help healthcare providers offer quality care to patients experiencing reproductive loss.” Life Perspectives remedies this by educating healthcare providers through educational and training sessions, including a course led personally by Grauerholz:
Reproductive Grief Care Training for Nurses –This course educates nurses and other medical providers to help patients actualize the loss, validate the grief, and begin to cope with those experiences. This live webinar course is available to nurses on these upcoming dates:
September 3rd
October 20th or
November 5th
